Winter Talent Showcase Collaboration
Ken Kodys & Spirit Hound Distillers
Spirit Hound Distillers are quickly becoming recognized as true craftsmen to the Colorado distilling community after the release of their first batches of Gin in the last year. Spirit Hound Distillers have chosen to work with Ken Kodys of
Ken Kodys Consulting and BW Holdings for their showcase round on Monday night.
Spirit Hound has been highly involved in growing their market of supporters in the bartending community and crafting spirits based around the needs of the front-line professionals. Ken has been an avid supporter of Spirit Hound products from his first taste, which he described their gin to be unique and complex and inspires a lot of great ideas for his cocktails.
The Spirit Hound Distillers’ Gin is currently their biggest seller, but they also offer a coffee liqueur and they recently batched up and barreled a whiskey, which you can expect to see in the (hopefully near) future.
The Spirit Hound Gin is produced in small batch quantities out of a hand crafted still that enable them to produce their spirit on their own set of rules. 90 percent of the gin producers today call for introducing their botanicals into the mixture before distilling. Spirit Hound has taken another approach and suspends their botanicals in the column to be infused into the vapor as it is distilled. The result? A much smoother, cleaner product. The aromas of the botanical recipe are caught early by the nose and followed by a smooth finish that is crisp and refreshing.
Ken Kodys has taken the lead on the cocktail recipes that he and Spirit Hound Distillers will be crafting at the Winter Talent Showcase and they are also bringing their Richardo’s Coffee Liqueur for everybody to taste as well.
You can catch Kodys all over the Breckenridge and Wynkoop concepts: if you can’t find him, have a cocktail, he more than likely created it. Feel free to stop by the Spirit Hound tasting room for a tour and a couple cocktails, you won’t be able to miss the big “Whisky From Colorful Colorado” sign.
